Betsy on Air 2/13 – 19/10 - Black Angels/Black History Month

Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s.  Luke was an eleven year old slave running north to join up with the Union Forces.  Daylily was a nine year old slave who snuck out of the wagon when the big men were killing Buttercup who had been taking the babies north to find her man who’d been sold away.  Caswell, the seven year old son of a white plantation owner who was fighting for the Confederacy, had been trying to find his mamadear after their home was burned to the ground . They met in the woods.  They were hungry, cold and frightened.  Luke’s hunting skills and Dayliliy’s experience fishing took the edge off their hunger; taking coats off the dead soldiers helped them warm up a little.  And sharing stories about their past helped them to trust one another, until they were more like family than most families.  Young readers will find this survival story of three children during the Civil War riveting!  I know I did.  It’s called Black Angels and you’ll find it at Otto’s, 'a booklover’s paradise in the heart of Downtown Williamsport.'
