Betsy on Air 1/9 – 1/15/10 The Red Door

Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s.  The winter blahs and the post-holiday let down can hit with a vengeance this time of year but you can fight back with a good book.  That’s right, pick up a good mystery like The Red Door by a mother and son team writing as Charles Todd.  Set in England shortly after the “Great War” (the war to end all wars, they called it at the time) Scotland Yard Inspector Ian Rutledge is assigned a case involving the mysterious disappearance of a man from a prominent London family.  Before the mystery is solved there are a number of murders and a dozen or more suspects.  The psychological effects of military service are a factor in more than one of the finely drawn characters, not the least of whom is the Inspector himself who is constantly forewarned and second-guessed by the presence in his head of a soldier whose death he feels responsible for.  The thorough immersion in another place and time in history, the complex psychological characterizations and the baffling mystery will take your mind off the weather, I promise.  The Red Door—you’ll find it at Otto’s, 'a booklover’s paradise in the heart of Downtown Williamsport.'
