1/23 – 1/29/10 Snow Books

Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s. Before we do Valentine’s Day, I want to squeeze in a plug for snow books!  We have a pile of them!—books to feed the imagination, like Snow Party, a picture book by Harriet Ziefert.  Did you know when the woods and ponds fill up with snow, the snow people get together for a party?  And then there are books to feed the curious mind, like The Story of Snow, the Science of Winter’s Wonder.  It’s a fascinating look at how snow crystals are made.  Did you know a speck of dirt, or ash or salt is the beginning of a snow crystal?  And a snowflake is a bunch of crystals that cling together?  And every single snow crystal has six sides yet no two are ever alike!  Just like people, they have a lot in common, but no two are ever exactly alike.  Each page has photographs of beautiful snow crystals as seen under a microscope.   And then the authors show you how you can catch and study snow crystals.  Snow—find dozens of books on it at Otto’s, 'a booklover’s paradise, in the heart of Downtown Williamsport.'
